Hunger

In the one-minute film, Cumhur is sitting in a café with a group of friends that includes the girl he likes. While everyone at the table orders expensive drinks, he drinks only tea so he can save money. Every time he passes on a drink, the amount of money he’s saved appears above his head. As the night goes on, his friends decide to go to a bar; however, Cumhur cannot join them because he doesn’t want to spend the money he has saved. He silently accepts the possibility that the girl he likes might get close to someone else at that bar. Throughout the film, every small sacrifice he makes grows numerically on screen, while Cumhur’s social life gradually shrinks. In the end, it is revealed that all the money he has saved can only buy him a simple, solitary dinner. The film illustrates how economic anxieties invisibly erode a young person’s love, friendships, and memories.
