Dimas Juju is an actor and director who graduated from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta, majoring in Theatre. He has been involved in several film productions, including Dancing Colors, which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in 2022, where he starred as the lead actor. He has also appeared in feature films that have been screened in theaters and on Netflix, such as Kemah Terlarang and Andragogy, among others.
His directorial debut, Where the Clownfish Meets the Clown, premiered at the Bakunawa Film Festival in the Philippines in 2023.
Nasrudin Mardiansyah is a writer and director of the short film The Sunset is Beautiful, Isn’t It? (2022). Previously, he directed IMAJI (2019), which won Best Short Film at UCIFEST 11 – UMN Animation and Film Festival and was screened at several national film festivals. He has also been involved as a producer, director of photography (DOP), music scorer, and editor in several other short film projects. Currently, he is active as a film reviewer on TikTok through the account Nasrudin | Review Film, and is a member of the film criticism collective CineAUF. His critical writing was selected as a Top 15 finalist in the 2023 National Film Review Competition organized by Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi Republik Indonesia.
Police officers, who are supposed to protect the public, often act repressively instead. Today in Indonesia, victims of police repression continue to increase. To this day, the police institution has never taken truly serious action to address these problems. Uniforms, ranks, and elite positions are often exploited to gain authority.
This phenomenon is deeply embedded in the culture of governance from police officers who misuse their uniforms to extort civilians, to officials who use their positions to intimidate political opponents or pursue personal gain. Uniforms and titles become capital that grant individuals access to act beyond proper boundaries. They assume that their rank, office, or uniform can shield them from the reach of the law. Tragically, in this country, they are often the very ones who enjoy impunity.
This film portrays how civilians perceive public police in Indonesia, told through the perspective of an actor who is trying to portray a police officer properly. It translates the reality of corrupt officers, repressive practices, and an inhumane system that continues to persist today. The film responds to a collective anxiety: within the state system, symbols of authority have transformed into authoritarian tools, used arbitrarily and without accountability.
