Director Biography - Erik Sémashkin

Arrived from Ukraine in France in 2012, I am a young director with more than ten short films to my credit, selected and awarded internationally.

I want to diversify and explore new forms of filmmaking, working on several genres. However, this variety of films has a common background.

Whether it’s about the environment or international conflicts, I remain sensitive to current events while telling my story.

Arrivé d'Ukraine en France en 2012, je suis un jeune réalisateur avec plus d'une dizaine de courts-métrages à mon actif, sélectionnés et primés à l'international.

Je souhaite me diversifier et explorer de nouvelles formes de réalisation, en travaillant sur plusieurs genres. Cependant, cette variété de films possède un fond commun.

Que ce soit sur l'environnement ou les conflits internationaux, je reste sensible à l’actualité, tout en racontant mon histoire.

Director Statement

A huge merciless machine is putting pressure on innocent beings. These two little mice are trying to survive in the waste as best they can, but the machine is destroying everything.

A few days before the war in Ukraine, Russia continued to amass its troops. My family living there, and the whole world, held their breath. An unprecedented pressure had set in, and it was this pressure that I wanted to express in House of Mice.

Une énorme machine sans pitié fait pression sur des êtres innocents. Ces derniers sont deux petites souris. Elles essaient de survivre dans les déchets comme elles peuvent, mais la machine détruit tout.

Quelques jours avant la Guerre en Ukraine, la Russie continuait à amasser ses troupes. Ma famille vivant là-bas et le monde entier, retenaient leurs souffles. Une pression sans précédent s'était installée, c’est cette dernière que je voulais exprimer dans House of Mice.
