Hotel Puerto Rico

Hotel Puerto Rico takes the audience into the rich, vibrant and colorful life of the hotel director's work, Marta Guzman, as she dazzles and exudes sound, feeling, and local flavor into every action and interaction at the Hotel Puerto Rico, steering the staff to remain, as her, in their "authentic" roles. But, the true, real Marta, hides in darkness, sad, and angry. It isn't until an ex-love, Miguel Rodriguez, arrives at the hotel, unexpectedly, with his girlfriend, during the 4th of July, the most important time for the owners of Hotel Puerto Rico, that Marta begins to rip at the seams, and reveal to the world, and herself, the truth of who, and what it means, to be Puerto Rican.

Writer Statement

"Hotel Puerto Rico" is a story inspired by my own experience working in hotels, and what I have seen happen, when tourism takes a dark turn, turning beauty, into a monetized product. An experience of an authentic place, comes with the true, natural and varied palette, that place holds, and Puerto Rico, is so much more, so so much more, than many have allowed.
