Born in Mexico but raised in Phoenix, AZ, Robert is the son of a combat marine from the East Coast and a school teacher from central Mexico. Like himself, Robert’s stories are rooted in characters straddling two different worlds, struggling to find their place. Often with a genre-bent.
As a director, his work has won Best Sci-Fi at the LA Sci-fi Film Festival. HONOR’S HALF-LIFE won Best Thriller/Suspense at the Chandler International Film Festival and will be featured on the sci-fi channel, DUST on YouTube.
Besides his narrative work, Robert has shot hundreds of heart surgeries all over the US and was part of the team that won an Emmy for the documentary The Latest Procedure. He has never fainted at the sight of blood…except his own.
A few years ago I watched an intense documentary about soldiers who were put through some gruesome and awful testing during the cold war. Even though it was a short doc, it stuck with me. And because I had a father who served in combat, I have a special place in my heart for those who put their lives on the line. That was the origin of this story for Honor's Half-Life. There are some heavy themes hidden in the dystopic world in this short; duty, sacrifice, mental health. The cost not to just to ourselves, but to the next generation.
