Maximilian grew up in Singapore watching DVDs of Wuxia films and made his first money editing videos on his Sony Ericsson phone for his primary school classmates. He realised early on, that there are ways of expressing himself that simply cannot be achieved by methods aside from filmmaking. Maximilian believes that the emotional quality present in the mundane is authentic and important. He desires to tell unheard stories about identities and grief, to visualise changes, inciting feelings from the ordinary. He is continuously growing through continuous learning and life experiences to sharpen his sensibilities as a creative.

Maximilian also constantly explores other mediums to develop himself as a polymath. He is an avid reader of local literature and appreciates games with great models of storytelling. He also loves theatres and plays, and has worked on multiple projects in the capacity of multimedia, including for dance, theatre as well as telecasted shows such as the annual National Day Parade.
