Since 2018, Turkey has been experiencing a currency crisis, resulting in economic contraction. In February 2020, the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic further deepened this economic downturn. Additionally, a class that could be described as wealthy-bourgeois began to emerge within circles close to the government that had started before the pandemic. The impoverishment of the middle and lower classes outside of this circle became evident. As a result, the understanding of the social state in our country entered a process of liquidation. Workers and the working class (regardless of blue or white-collar distinctions) began to experience difficult times. I started to see that their salaries and wages were not being paid properly or were not being paid at all. In parallel with the increasing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, I encountered news in the written press, mainstream media, and social media regarding these issues. These became matters that began to trouble me as a director and screenwriter. Our short film titled "Holiday" is related to this issue. "Holiday" tells the story of Mevlüt, a cleaning worker at a wedding hall who lives in a rural area with his sick daughter and struggles to keep her alive. In summary, our short film "Holiday" is a poverty-themed film that focuses on the existential struggle of our character Mevlüt, who lives below the hunger line.
