His_Own_Demon

Attempting to prove the reality of a nightmare that seems to stand at the end of his bed, a haunted young man sets up cameras to catch the terrible thing that appears the very moment he falls asleep. But when the memory card corrupts and the footage becomes fused with deleted data, monstrous secrets surface from long ago.

Director Statement

'His_Own_Demon' was an opportunity to explore ideas about trauma and memory. A key interest here is how these degraded images are transmitted digitally with a key focus on the horror of lost memory shown through data corruption. With this in mind, rather than rely on effects through plug-ins, our editor deliberately corrupted the files himself to produce authentic distortion in both the images and soundtrack.

The joy of shooting 'found footage' for this project films was creating a shot that also expressed the character of the cameraperson in its movement combining the roles of cinematographer and actor in a way I hadn't tried on a set before.

None of this would have been possible without the endless creativity of our writer and crew, which allowed us to produce a low-budget film with great originality. This proved to be a wonderful, horrific and successful experiment.
