Experiencing Interruptions?

His Bottom Line

At every opportunity, IT-illiterate Ah Guan takes leisurely walks throughout Singapore’s most crowded streets, holding his cheaply made signboard up for all to see: ‘FROM MY HEART, HONEST MAN NEED A WIFE. ANY AGE, LOOK, RACE OK. BUT BACK MUST NICE. WILL PAMPER YOU LIKE BABY.’ For the first time in his life at 57, he is physically hunting for a wife. He believes whole-heartedly that his grounded approach will help him in his search for love. A ‘pretty back’, a peachy posterior. Through his conquest for companionship, the documentary explores his isolation, loneliness and the motivation for true love.

Director Biography - Chew Yun Yan

Ah Guan’s persistence inspires all of us to chase our ‘dreams’ in a way, no matter how crazy they may be. However, the intentions of those dreams are equally important as well. There are moments in life where we justify our own vanity by simply acknowledging it. But is being self-aware enough? That is what I wanted to explore through this documentary film, which wouldn’t have been possible without my amazing crew, visiting Vietnam and working through the different challenges together has made it an extremely fun and eye-opening experience. This film and this experience enabled me to better understand the older generation, their traditional values and the grey areas of morality.
