Hinterland Hideout

The Huelva region is the most rough-edged part of Andalusia: petrochemical industry, strawberry mass production, environmental damage. But the German olive farmer Franz and the Malian strawberry picker Issouf both try in their own ways to make the place their home. Hinterland Hideout is the story of two very different explorers and their struggle to survive in a hostile environment. Columbus started his trip to America from Huelva, he arrived after ten weeks. For more than ten years Franz and Issouf try to arrive in Huelva

Director Statement

What interests me is how people are coping with the societies they happen to be thrown in, how they struggle with the limitations that people around them impose on them, how they suffer but despite everything keep fighting for a minimum of dignity.
