Heroin(e) Hypocrite
"Heroin Hypocrite" is a high-energy, punk song written by Amy Swallow. The song explores themes of identity, the importance of authenticity and self-deception through satire and vintage imagery. The lyrics depict a narrative where someone presents a facade, projecting a “rockstar” image of rebellion while concealing their own vulnerability and inner turmoil. This video utilizes dolls, toys and eccentric costumes to not only call-out the romanization of drug use, but also to call back the importance of staying true to your child self.

Marz Gebhardt (she/they) is a 25 year old Canadian multidisciplinary artist, filmmaker, and writer whose practice combines hand-crafted clay stop-motion, music videos, short films and documentaries, and original sound. Their work centers fantastical and emotionally grounded narratives that explore queer and feminine identities and chosen forms of belonging through fantastical and intentionally handmade visual worlds. Working as a director, cinematographer, and screenwriter, Gebhardt produces visually distinctive music videos and short films that integrate tactile animation, narrative-based filmmaking, and her original sound design as central storytelling forces.
As an advocate for every artist's rightful freedom of expression, I hope to present the music video for Heroin(e) Hypocrite as both a unique form of visual storytelling, and as a challenge to myself as an aspiring screenwriter and music video director.
