Director Biography - Cheryl Haines, Ethan Wiley

Director Cheryl Haines is the founding executive director of the FOR-SITE Foundation and principal of Haines Gallery. She was the curator of @Large: Ai Weiwei on Alcatraz. She also directed the documentary "Yours Truly: Ai Weiwei" inspired by the exhibition. For over thirty years, Haines has developed exhibitions and site-specific public programs that have exposed new audiences to contemporary art and advanced the discourse on art about place. Haines’ dynamic curatorial stance presents challenging and provocative exhibitions by artists who explore cultural and environmental issues through a wide range of media, as well as public, site-specific commissions on a national scale.

After studying theater and film at UCLA, Ethan Wiley embarked on a successful film career, first working as a Special Effects artist on blockbuster films such as “Return of the Jedi”, “Romancing the Stone”, and “Gremlins”. He has been a screenwriter and director for Fox, Fox TV, Warner Brothers, New Line, New World, Disney, Miramax, Lionsgate, Anchor Bay, Universal, HBO, Spelling, and many other production companies. His films include cult-classics “House” and “House 2”, horror film “Children of the Corn 5”, family comedy “Elf-Man”, and the Chinese adventure “Journey to the Forbidden Valley”. He is currently preparing to direct his second documentary, “Dude Ranch Dada”, a documentary about the San Francisco arts scene in the 1960’s, featuring his father, artist William T. Wiley.
