Hello boss, I'm menstruating

Yara is on her period and is more miserable than ever. While her boyfriend Enno is overprotective of the situation, Yara fears less understanding from her boss and her colleagues at the garden center. However, there is no way around calling in sick. When her boss Christoph asks, Yara is finally faced with the question: Can I just say that I'm on my period?

Director Biography - Lisa Carstensen

Born in 1994 in the gray town by the sea, Husum, Lisa's first love was, in addition to the North Sea, especially the theater and the circus. After a trip around the world, she focused on film during her bachelor's degree and shot her first short films. After numerous projects in advertising and fiction, she finished her studies at the Hamburg Media School in the field of film production with the film 'On the brink’ in 2022.

Since then she has been working as Script Supervisor and Producer in Hamburg and Berlin. ,Hello Boss, I'm menstruating' is her first short film as a director.

As a person who has had to overcome some major obstacles in life and doesn't have the most straightforward social background, Lisa has a strong sense of justice. She is particularly concerned with issues such as social inequality, feminism, climate change and all sorts of psychological phenomena. Lisa enjoys working in a team, talking about nightmares, reading children's books and the Moomins. She has synesthesia and associates everything with color. Nevertheless, it is within the realm of possibility to get her very excited about a black and white film every now and then.

Director Statement

Which menstruating person doesn't know it: abdominal and back pain, gastrointestinal problems, fatigue and then this DAMN irritability. A period without discomfort is a rarity that we would all cheer. Although the symptoms are often just as bad or even worse than those of other illnesses, in many workplaces it is still taken for granted to turn up to work despite this. After all, it's 'just' the period and didn't our mothers, our grandmothers, our great-grandmothers and all those before them manage to do the same?

With 'Hello boss, I'm menstruating' I would like to make this topic visible in a humorous way. In the hope that we will all soon be able to talk about it freely and without taboo or shame. And yes, men too!
