Heaven's Knight, The Desert King

In the scorching heat of the 1931 Syrian Desert, young Nasya, tasked with caring for her family's sparse herd of sheep, discovers the absence of a newborn lamb. Determined to recover it, she ventures toward the nearby, long-abandoned village of Serjilla, despite the local tales that deem it haunted. Her fear of her father's disapproval outweighs her fear of ghosts, driving her into the forsaken ruins in search of shade for the missing lamb.
Unexpectedly, her quest ends not with an encounter with the supernatural but with the appearance of a handsome stranger, Hakim, who emerges from the ruins with the lamb in arms. A bedouin by trade, Hakim lives amidst the village's relics, a revelation that astonishes Nasya. Grateful for his kindness, she returns home, only to return to Serjilla before dusk with a small meal for Hakim as a token of her appreciation.
A week passes, and Hakim reciprocates Nasya's gesture by visiting her village, Tel Shegeb, bearing gifts—a small herd of cattle. This act of generosity begins a burgeoning bond between Hakim and Nasya's family. Another week sees Hakim assisting Nasya's father, Kasib, with a laborious task, cementing their friendship further through a shared experience at the local bathhouse.
However, the tranquility of Tel Shegeb is shattered as the village catches the eye of warring factions led by Mullah Sashi and Tribal Chief Tengi. Recognizing its strategic value, both factions dispatch spies to the village, none of whom return. Alarmed, the village council convenes, compelling Kasib to attend and introducing Hakim to the council under suspicions of espionage. The interrogation reveals Hakim's innocence, but the council's fears are confirmed—Tel Shegeb is now a target.
In a bid for protection, Kasib and Hakim volunteer to seek aid from the national army, a journey that leads them to the military base in Tall Abur. Despite their plea, they find the army's priorities lie elsewhere, leaving Tel Shegeb to fend for itself against the looming threat of the warlords.
In the meantime, Nasya and Hakim's relationship has blossomed into marriage, and Nasya gives birth to their child. But joy is short-lived as Kasib and Hakim, upon their return, find the village and their families devastated by the conflict. In a moment of revelation, Hakim discloses his true nature as Amadi, a Djinn. In a desperate bid to save what remains, he uses his powers to transport himself and Kasib back to the village, albeit too late.
The story culminates in a tragic yet heroic act as Amadi, faced with the loss of his family and the destruction of Tel Shegeb, avenges the fallen by annihilating both warring factions and the village itself, leaving only his newborn son, secretly sent away, as the sole survivor.
The narrative then shifts to the present day, introducing Xavier McKnight, a Vatican agent assigned to Charlotte, North Carolina. This transition hints at a broader, ongoing saga, with the events of Tel Shegeb and the legacy of the "Desert King" echoing into contemporary times, setting the stage for further adventures and mysteries in the series.
