Hanna in Hollywood: The War
On the date of the war, Hanna starts her own battle.
Same hotel, same dog, same height, same name;
Hanna's lives in Parallel Universe.
A war she faces for her Hollywood dream. Armed with make-up and dress, she goes into the long wait of a battle.
--------------------------------
In the summer of 2022, I ran into a girl in a hotel backyard in Hollywood. She was smoking a cigarette and her dog was sitting next to her. Our conversation started when the dog came to greet me.
She was an actress just started pursuing her career in Ukraine after the long Covid. But soon after the war has hit the country and her dream got lost. It was then she decided to leave her family behind and cross the border with her dog.
In Hollywood, she was staying in the hotel same as mine and was looking for a career as an actress. Her eyes were like a warrior from the battlefield. Her courage and desire were intertwined with my dream of becoming an actress/filmmaker in Hollywood. Born in a country that suffered the same pain of the war that she was going through, I instantly resonated with her.
Inspired by her story, I started to write a script and it was finished by the next morning. There was not much time we could be together in Hollywood. And so the filming took about 5 hours on the first day and about 30 minutes on the second day using the only tool I had, a smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S22+). After filming the last scene, something unbelievable happened. I saw the clock indicated 2:24 with a pre-set date of June 25 which are the dates for the Ukrainian and Korean Wars. I felt as if I was drawn to this project.
I believe this film will deliver deeper meanings than I intended to; just like I was drawn to the backyard of the hotel, met her, and wrote the script and filmed it.
I hope this movie be an inspiration to the ones who are fighting for their dreams just like the way I was inspired by the girl who crossed the border for her dream to Hollywood.
