Director Biography - Will Foster-Grundy

Will is a passionate, dedicated and hardworking director of photography specialising in wildlife and expedition film-making, and sync camerawork in high-stress environments. Just as comfortable working at 4000m above sea level as at 45m underwater. His passion lies in working on observational documentaries to tell important and powerful stories through film. Will has worked on international broadcast productions for clients including Discovery Channel, National Geographic and Smithsonian Channel and has directed and shot a series of films selected for international film festivals.

He was the director, cameraman and part-time editor on Borneo from Below, a 29-part web series set in the underwater world of Borneo. The series focussed on the amazing marine life, fascinating people, conservation projects, and awesome dive sites found in the region.

Headed by environmental photojournalist Aaron ‘Bertie’ Gekoski, episodes ranged from ‘discovering’ a two-headed nudibranch, to documenting the plight of the seahorse, and even leaping off boats to wrangle turtles in the name of science.

Following the success of the show, Will has since directed and produced Indonesia from Below, a follow-on series showcasing the marine world throughout the country.

Director Statement

This idea behind this film was to provoke thought on the tentative topic of wildlife tourism and it's role in conservation. Using the example of hand feeding whalesharks in remote Indonesia, the audience are encouraged to appreciate the incredible biology of these animals and the sheer awe they command, whilst also thinking critically about why we should and how best to safeguard their future.
