HOME

A Pakistani woman is lost in New York, searching for her home. "HOME" is based on a true experience I had in New York at the end of 2020. The film explores the concept of duality, where you perceive others and how others perceive you. It follows my journey of navigating my life in New York during COVID, being part of the night lifestyle, and feeling both lost and found. As fears and judgments blur my vision, I perceive everything through a different lens. Running from one country to another in search of my real home, I confront the fears associated with my religion, gender, and identity. This one-night journey could feel like a lifetime, an illusion of time and space.

Director Statement

We live in the world of duality. It's our perception and then the world's perception. This film is a personal experience that happened to me when I moved to New York during Covid. The feeling of nostalgia, the feeling of being lost & yet found. The feeling of search of HOME and then finding HOME within. I left Pakistan because of some threats to my life because of my women rights- social work that I was doing. I ran to the US in order to find a safe space. But sooner I had a realization where is safe space? I got attacked at subway station. The feeling of not able to find the connection and faces that look alike. My family, my community... The party life in New York, and all little & bigger experiences that you go through. May be in our imagination and may be it's just no where? The journey to find home and the realization or the only way to feel safe is to look into your eyes and tell your self. What I told in the end of the film.
