Ground Control
Ground Control is the first short film ever shot in space. But at its core, it's a story about a man who can't let go of something he never got to say.
Isaac, a veteran aerospace engineer and Mexican immigrant, has spent his life chasing the stars, and in doing so, has drifted away from everyone he loves. Now, haunted by guilt and recurring visions he can't explain, he faces a choice: hold on to the dream that cost him his family, or find the courage to make peace with the ones he hurt.

Werner Heinze (San Luis Potosí), Hugo Montes de Oca (Monterrey), and Mauricio Ramos (Jalisco) founded WHA Productions to approach filmmaking differently, with a disruptive focus on technical processes. Their first collaboration, Enjoy the Silence (shot on 16 mm), received international awards. They strive to push the boundaries of cinematic language and explore new ways of storytelling.
In Ground Control, we explore grief, guilt, and hope through a human narrative that highlights the importance of letting go and appreciating what we have. Guilt drives Isaac to transform his life for what truly matters. Though visually striking, the short film focuses on emotional connection, making it more than just science fiction, it’s an introspective journey about existence. Additionally, this project represents a personal challenge for us, as it is the first short film ever shot in space, proving that human emotions remain fundamental even in the vastest environments.
