Ground Control
Isaac, a middle-aged aerospace engineer, attends therapy to understand the nightmares that haunt him, unaware that they are tied to his past and his dream of joining a space mission—something that led him to drift away from his family. Werner Heinze (San Luis Potosí), Hugo Montes de Oca (Monterrey), and Mauricio Ramos (Jalisco) founded WHA Productions to approach filmmaking differently, with a disruptive focus on technical processes. Their first collaboration, Enjoy the Silence (shot on 16 mm), received international awards. They strive to push the boundaries of cinematic language and explore new ways of storytelling.
In Ground Control, we explore grief, guilt, and hope through a human narrative that highlights the importance of letting go and appreciating what we have. Guilt drives Isaac to transform his life for what truly matters. Though visually striking, the short film focuses on emotional connection, making it more than just science fiction—it’s an introspective journey about existence. Additionally, this project represents a personal challenge for us, as it is the first short film ever shot in space, proving that human emotions remain fundamental even in the vastest environments.
