In this student project, I delved into a unique animation technique not covered in class but inspired by a method mentioned in a textbook. Experimenting with heating plastic and pressing it onto 16mm clear film leader, I aimed to magnify small details, such as the paint on a grocery bag. Overcoming challenges of finding the right heat, timing, and pressure, my experimentation resulted in a mix of completely melted strips, strips with the bag permanently attached, and some with just the paint transferred. The splicing of these strips, followed by digital editing, culminated in a visually distinctive animation. The soundtrack, crafted from an FM Rhodes sample and abundant delay, further enriches the viewing experience. This project represents not only a technical exploration but also a manifestation of my artistic vision to bring attention to the beauty found in unexpected places.
