Director Biography - DD Sheahan

Beginning at Anthology Film Archives New York City, DD has made three publicly screened short films. The third of these, “Together!” (2009) was acclaimed and toured globally. DD's latest film, "Granny X" (2022), contributes its investigations into impermanence and taboo.

DD was active in the late nineties California music scene and is civilly unioned since then with LA punk novelist Thorn Kief Hillsbery, forever linking their work with that of the Situationists.

DD puts unempowered, flawed lives center stage, demonstrating how beauty survives in the moment. From an early age DD trained in music and puts sound and music at the forefront of their presentations, films that test the dimensions of the personal, packing a sneak attack of philosophy in their cartoon wrappers.

Director Statement

Working in a cartoon format, DD Sheahan reveals a surprise: unvarnished truth. This film is about how we need our dreams (and our entertainments) to lie to us. It's an ouroboros.

Granny X is an antihero's awakening, a million mile redemption fantasy arriving at the hardest facts.

Every aspect of Granny X is a solo effort by DD Sheahan. Some voice credits shared with the great Mary Murphy.
