Director Biography - Mike J. McAllister

Mike J. McAllister is a Pennsylvania-born award-winning screenwriter and filmmaker based in Austin, Texas, known for emotionally driven, genre-defying stories that blend horror, dark comedy, drama, and coming-of-age realism. His work often explores themes of alienation, spiritual decay, and social systems on the verge of collapse—told through the eyes of flawed, compelling outsiders.

His feature screenplays — Fish, The Woods, The Loser Table, Heritage Days, All Through the House, and The Ballad of Texas John — have been recognized by screenwriting contests, including the Los Angeles International Horror Festival and the Vancouver Badass Film Festival. McAllister brings a sharp sense of tone, biting dialogue, and deep character work to his projects, hoping to balance emotional truth with genre subversion.

In addition to screenwriting, Mike is an accomplished director, editor, and animator. His award-winning short films — Mercer County, You're On The Air, I Know We'll Meet Again, and I Never Saw Venice — have screened at festivals around the world, praised for their unique voice, visual flair, and emotional depth. He has collaborated with Twitch and YouTube creators, the Austin-based entertainment site OneOfUs.Net, and live events with The Roxy Horror Picture Show and One Man’s Trash.

Mike is currently developing new features and television projects and is actively seeking representation.

Director Statement

I took a couple of things from my childhood to make this. My Catholic upbringing in Pennsylvania, Catholic school education (all ingredients to make an atheist), and my Dad. He's a motorcycle enthusiast, and one of his biker buddies was one of our local priests. This script was a reworking of a pilot I wrote in 2022. It was an "Always Sunny" type of show set in a Catholic School. I just took a few of the more sitcom-y bits out, changed its overall tone and came up with this. It also came out of a sci-fi project falling apart and needing a new animated project.
