Nathaniel Elegino, a cinematographer by trade and Lizzete Flores, a production designer by trade, are a Fil-Am and Mex-Am directing team based in Southern California. Their previous contributions to features and shorts have been screened at Cinequest Film Festival, DisOrient Film Festival, Hawai’i International (HIFF), Nevada City Film Festival (NCFF), and the Blow-Up Chicago International Arthouse Film Fest.
"Gobbledygook" is an exploration of the surreal, heavily influenced by the writings of the "Surrealist Manifesto" and Sontag’s "Notes On Camp". We wanted to challenge conventional storytelling by having minimal dialogue and through the imagery, create a more visceral experience. The puppet character acts in place of the audience as they journey through this bizarre world.
The idea stemmed from our experience as children of the 90s, sitting in front of a TV screen being bombarded with images and more recently, our time in lockdown during the pandemic; trying to decipher the various forms of media. We hope that viewers will find their own meaning of the film, and at the same time enjoy watching it.
