Kathleen Harty is a New York writer/director and HBO has optioned one of her original feature scripts. With a background in editing, research, and stage diving into offbeat culture, Kathleen has been in love with story telling her whole life - written, screened and spoken. True to her passion, she cut school on her 16th birthday to watch LAWRENCE OF ARABIA on a big screen. GLITTER is her Killer Films MFA Thesis and a labor of love.
The first live concert I saw was David Bowie. His open mind and mega-multi-talents changed my view of the world. He introduced so many more possibilities for sound, vision, and relationships. I followed his career from then on. As I developed my own work in film and writing, I kept Bowie's full-on, never-ending exploration in mind. GLITTER is my tribute to that first experience and the highs and lows of a wizard up close.
Under his influence, I chose an unexpected cast. For costumes, I looked to the fantastic fashions he wore so well. For locations, I sought out and found vibrant colors and sharp lines that reflected the early seventies idea of "future." I found musicians who could emulate his gifted original guitar player, Mick Ronson. The cast and crew worked hard to make something authentic in both look and feeling... feelings like the joy of amazing life moments and sorrow for the loss of the beautifully courageous.
"I really liked this! Evocative and original. Really well done." Christine Vachon - Killer Films
