LIAT KRONGRAD is a NY based filmmaker from Miami. She started her career as an intern for Academy Award winning producer, Scott Rudin (Lady Bird, No Country for Old Men) . Later she received an MFA from USC's Film and TV Production Program with a focus in writing and directing. At USC, she was awarded financing for an advanced production project - previous selected directors include Ryan Coogler (Black Panther). Her short film premiered at CAA’s annual Moebius showcase and has been licensed to Amazon and Apple TV. She produced a Tribeca Film Institute supported feature film, Street Punx - that was shot in New Orleans and Myanmar - also distributed on Amazon and Apple TV after screening at Portland and New Orleans Film Festivals. Her latest feature screenplay is currently a finalist in ScreenCraft’s Virtual Pitch competition, and quarterfinalist in the running for ScreenCraft’s Screenwriting Fellowship.
The inspiration behind this short film was my own adolescent experience growing up in Miami, Florida, an overtly sexual place where young women were 13 going on 30, and boys evolved quickly into macho men. Like our protagonist, I navigated the confusing reality of first-time love and sexuality in the new millennium with help from my inexperienced, yet caring, friends, pop culture, and the internet.
This is a story that promotes open communication and compassion in romantic partnerships and friendships. I hope that audience members leave with the idea that honesty is always the best policy, that friendships are essential, that sometimes it’s ok to laugh at the absurdity of life, and finally, I want audience members to remember that if they find themselves in a struggle with love and intimacy, that they are not alone.
