In the preparation of the shooting, I was expecting to make a film about a traditional Macedonian wedding which takes place at a little village in the mountainous region of western Macedonia.
But during the shooting, more precisely directly during the very first interview, I realized that this is going to be a story about the human desire for keeping roots and tradition alive to feel the own identity. That is what we found in the village of Galicnik. All participants of the Galicka Svadba aspire to keep the elapsed way of life of their ancestors alive.
So, the film actually could be told in many other abonded places in the world. But the wedding ceremony as a bridge to the good old days seems to be the most romantic one. It was a good choice.
