This film was completed by chance as a tribute to “Masked Fighter 2”.
I encountered The Blue Shark during the filming of “Masked Fighter: Mixed Martial Arts Was Born in Japan 1985”.
Inspired by that encounter, “Why Do You Fight? Masked Fighter 2: The Last Disciple of the first Tiger Mask” was born.
During that filming, I decided to also shoot this event, “The Blue Shark 15th Anniversary Show,” as footage for the movie.
Later, I thought this footage itself could become a film, and that's how this work came to be.
However, it took over two and a half years from filming to completion.
Making a movie is truly difficult; I don't think it's something you can just whip up quickly.
As a side note, this event was held in the afternoon at Shimokitazawa Town Hall in Tokyo, while the “Fight of the Ring 10th Anniversary” took the same place in the morning.
The “Fight of the Ring 10th Anniversary ” was my previous film.
Somehow, that one was completed about a year after filming began.
And before that, I'd even finished a photo book.
When creating works, I create unconsciously and don't remember much, so I can't recall now why things unfolded that way.
“Fight of the Ring 10th Anniversary” was also a work that came about by chance. It started from the motivation that if two events were happening on the same day, I'd film both.
Over the next two and a half years, many things happened, and those events naturally influenced my work and the creative process.
The biggest incident was my hard drive crashing, erasing all the data I had shot.
Fortunately, most of the editing had been completed beforehand.
Still, losing all that data was quite a shock.
Despite everything, the work was completed somehow, and I continue creating the next piece.
