After graduating from Tokyo High School, he studied abroad at the University of Nevada, Reno, USA, for a short period. Upon returning to Japan, he entered the film industry as an assistant director under the guidance of acclaimed director and screenwriter Kanji Kashiwabara. He later found a mentor in director Noribumi Suzuki, participating in "Murder at the Literary Award: Big Runaway" and other works.
A pivotal encounter with Koichi Kawakita, the legendary special effects director of the Heisei Godzilla series, led him into the world of Tokusatsu (special effects). He contributed to major blockbusters such as "Godzilla: Final Wars," "Aegis," "Sinking of Japan," and "GANTZ" as an assistant special effects director.
He made his directorial debut in 2006 with "Cool Dimension," and went on to direct notable television series, including "Ultraman Ginga" and "Ultraman Ginga S." His previous film, "Yuzo The Biggest Battle in Tokyo," gained international acclaim, winning awards at multiple overseas film festivals. With his latest film, "GLADIO: Monster Battles In The Alternative Dimension," he continues to push the boundaries of Kaiju and special effects cinema.
When the pandemic ended, we believed our lives would return to normal, but that reality never arrived. Politics have stagnated, economic disparity has widened, and the yen has drastically weakened. With Japan becoming a "cheap" destination, massive numbers of global tourists have flooded in, leaving me to wonder at times if this is even Tokyo anymore.
It is a harsh and unforgiving era for the youth, a time where finding hope feels nearly impossible.
Yet, even in these difficult times, I wanted to convey a vital message: the future can be changed. I chose to depict this through the lens of analog Tokusatsu and fantasy Kaiju cinema. My hope is that audiences will thoroughly enjoy this film as pure entertainment, while also taking a small moment to reexamine their own lives. The future can be changed by our own will.
