Director Biography - Ella Freigang

Ella Freigang (she/her) is an award-winning experimental video artist whose work employs practical effects, analog video distortion, green screen, and animation in an attempt to render a world as absurd as our own.
Ella holds a BFA in Film, Animation, and New Genres from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee where she was first introduced to experimental cinema. 
Passionate about low/no budget filmmaking, Ella relies on a combination of DIY and digital effects to execute her visions. Hand painted backgrounds, paper mâché props, and puppets bring an undeniably human element to her work.

Friends With Myself explores the mental landscape of perfectionism and negative self talk. How does one cohabitate with a permanent roommate who is often mean and untruthful? What everyone who struggles with this must come to terms with is that we cannot break free of negative cognitive loops through harshness and criticism. Only through compassion and tenderness can you truly become friends with yourself.
