Experiencing Interruptions?

Fremd, the FOREIGNER

A passport from the Kingdom of Prussia was found amongst a father's belongings which sparks the search for why the German great-grandfather was forced to migrate to the tropics back in 1873.
The complex and challenging civilization process for the whitening policy that was implemented in Brazil, by the then Portuguese Court, as well as the beginning of migratory movements and its effects they have in todays’ times are themes that are dealt with in this story.

Director Statement

My motivation to carry out this project was born when and I found the passport of my great-grandfather in my father's belongings. This passport, a document that is almost 150 years old and with notes in Gothic German written during the transatlantic journey that Mathias Stein took to reach Brazil, was saved from the burning of many books, documents and personal belongings that were disposed of due to the fear that these German immigrants had at the time of the New Nationalization period, marked by much aggression in the colonies with descendants of German immigrants. On its cover, the stamp that marked Mathias' arrival in Brazil in 1873.

As a director, it is crucial for me to provoke in people the feeling of tolerance towards foreign immigrants, based on a greater awareness of the understanding of the challenges they face.
With that, I wanted to investigate if immigrants are received with tolerance in the new destination they have chosen.
