Frankenlime
Inspired by her great-great-great-grandfather, Frankie Stein, decides to build a 'monster' of her own...but this time with a lime for a brain!
Based loosely on Mary Shelley's original 'Frankenstein', the story of Frankenlime takes the classic Sci-Fi horror and gives it a comedic (and musical) citrus twist!
Starting out as a lunchtime writing club in Year 6, with ideas being submitted via Google Classroom over the Easter holidays, the idea and storyline for the film was quickly brought together. From jokes about silly STEM club members with exploding slime, to monsters offering bananas as gifts, what you see on the screen is very much the children's ideas brought to life.
Following auditions for key roles and interviews for film crew, the production quickly moved into action. With students filming in between lessons, as well as negotiating school residentials, sports days and bikeability weeks, this enormous 49 scene movie, with a cast of 50 and crew of 10, was brought to life in amazingly only 5 weeks to make!
From enormous 50 actor talent show set pieces, too claustrophobic science lab scenes, and even Godzilla inspired special effect shots, none of this amazing project would have been possible without the dedication and commitment of all the children and adult helpers involved.
Please enjoy the movie. Also, check out the production gallery, as well as a few of the documents collected together, that give an insight into the children's experience.
We'll be adding more Frankenlime content and news over the next few weeks, so make sure you keep checking for updates.

My name's Ash Williams, and I'm the Senior Teacher at Burnham Market Primary School. As part of the project, I supported the children in bringing their vision to life - teaching them how to use the film equipment, compose the shots and think cinematically so what you see on screen is their creative skills.
Filmmaking and media studies is very much embedded in our school's ethos, with every child having the opportunity to star in and create their own films and animations as part of their learning. The drive to make filmmaking accessible to all is something that I'm truly passionate about and feel the S.I. the film project showcases this beautifully.
best in the class at Newton Longville and gave them an unforgettable experience as young filmmakers.
What began as a playful idea quickly grew into a full-fledged story, powered by the students’ creativity and determination—even during the challenging circumstances of Covid. Filming took place within class “bubbles,” which meant the children had to adapt, problem-solve, and work together in new ways.
Amazingly, the whole project came together in just a few weeks. From script and camerawork to sound and performance, the pupils threw themselves into every stage of the process. Their teamwork and energy turned “Frankenlime” into more than just a film—it became the absolute highlight of the year.
As their teacher, I had the privilege of guiding them from concept to final cut, supporting their ideas and showing them that filmmaking isn’t only for professionals in Hollywood—it’s for anyone with imagination and a story to share. Watching my students bring “Frankenlime” to life, especially under such unusual circumstances, has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my teaching career.
