Frankenfish by the River-我们在河畔希望被鱼怪吃掉

·This is an "urban nautical fable" about frankenfish and three young people.
After experiencing emotional setbacks, actress Jia Jia returns to her hometown to reunite with old friends. Meanwhile, the Fish Monster begins its mission to capture humans who don't feed fish. The holiday takes a twist on a nightclubbing night, and ultimately, the three of them "end" the magical holiday by the riverbank.

·这是一个「都市航海寓言」, 关于三个初入社会的年轻人.
落魄女演员佳佳在男友出轨后回到老家与旧友「韩凌、友为」相聚。同时护鱼军团也开始执行任务——捉拿不喂鱼的人类。但蹦迪之夜后，一切都发生了变化。友为对韩凌产生情愫，佳佳的初恋也出现了。韩凌则因父亲找了新女友而耿耿于怀, 只好在练舞房认识的女孩那寻求安慰。心中的怪物在作怪，心情好似变化多端的天气，三人拥有了各自的秘密。终于，矛盾也在他们身上爆发......暑假即将结束，他们又相聚在河畔边惆怅，叙述河里的怪物；渐渐地，他们好像消失在了大桥上。

·これは「都市航海の寓話」で、社会に入ったばかりの三人の若者の物語だ。
落魄れた女優ジャアジャアは、彼氏が浮気をした後、実家へ戻って、古い友達であるカンリンとユウウェと再会した。同時に、魚守護軍団も任務を執行し始めたーー魚に餌をあげない人間を逮捕することだった。しかし、ダンスクラブの夜の後、全てが変わり始めた。ユウウェのカンリンへの感情が芽生えて、そして、ジャアジャアの初恋の人も再び現れた。カンリンは、父親が新しい彼女が出来たことで、気が晴れなくて、ダンス教室で知り合った女の子に慰めを求めるしか無かった。心の中の化け物が暴れて、気持ちは多変な天気のようだった。三人は各自に秘密を抱え始めた。遂に、矛盾が彼らの間に爆発した．．．．．．夏休みが後少しで終るごろ、彼らはまだ川岸に集まって、悲しんで、川の中にある怪物の話しをした。徐々に、彼らは大橋で消えたようだった。

Director Biography - Yusha Chen

·Yusha Chen was born in 1996 in Sichuan, China, the hometown of pandas. As an actor/writer/director, a three-in-one, she likes to fantasize and observe relationships between people. Her graduation short film, The Woman, was nominated for the Chengdu Short Film Festival Competition and won the Guangzhou Zurongcun Best Actress Award as well as being nominated for Best Director. She also received a prize of 10,000 RMB and put the prize money into her first LGBT Fantasy Short Film-"4:00 am" making after graduation.
And that short film Taiwan GagaOOLala Website Launch、Nominated for the Berlin Independent Film Festival 2020 (Berlin) competition section、Nominated for the Nowness Asia Short Film Selection、Nominated for the Beijing Short Film Exhibition 2019 (China) Screening、Nominated for the Shanghai Queer Film Festival 2019 (China) Asian Competition Section、Nominated for the Queer Film Festival MEZIPATRA 2020 (Czech Republic) invited short film competition section etc.

Director Statement

·I aim to portray the emotions I've observed and explore the "possibilities" of combining different elements. I attempt to depict a modern urban legend.
I was born in a small city, but I've realized that the Internet has bridged the gap between young people. The lifestyle and fashion of the youth here resemble those of the big cities. During the filming process, I chose to incorporate local dialect for a "de-urbanization" approach. And the relationship between the three main characters does not follow "the three-way love triangle" troupe. The casting also leans towards gender neutrality. The narrative voice maintains a conventional style but doesn't shy away from experimental elements. Additionally, I combine animation to express more abstract emotions.
·Prevalently among my generation, there's a trend of verbally giving up, but the body is still striving. They may seem carefree, but their inner turmoil remains. The protagonist of the film embodies this characteristic. In the film, the Fish Monster Crew's task is to capture humans who don't feed fish, while the protagonist's life repeatedly emphasizes the act of "feeding fish." In reality, feeding fish represents a sense of "satiety," "fulfillment," and "care," yet it is often overlooked in daily life. The hope is that the film can convey warmth and encourage everyone to take good care of their inner selves. In conclusion, I want to express emotions and exude energy through the medium of this urban fable-like story, hoping it will resonate with people.

· 我想探讨当代中国年轻人的隐形风气——「摆烂」
看似玩乐，但内心无法安宁。人前欢乐，人后沮丧。我将这一体会注入在片中的人物性格中。
其中, 女主多次被强调「喂鱼」，其象征「饱腹感」、「充实」、「照料」，却常常被忽视。
其意义是呼吁人们应该关照自己的内心。影片的人物孤独，却又怀有心事地互相陪伴着彼此。
影片还添加了家庭元素 ，是对人物关系的扩展，同时也是我个人和父母相处时的体验。

· 我想尝试将「古老传说」的氛围融入「现代都市」
让似有若无的情绪贯穿于整个影片，营造一个这个影片特有的空间。音乐的风格，也相对具有神秘感。

· 我想探索元素间结合的「可能性」
影片结合动画以及不同的介质，如手机、电脑前置 融入叙事，声音在常规叙事的同时，也不放弃实验性。
片中的三人关系也非三角恋，演员形象的选择也偏中性。拍摄过程中，我特地选择了方言，但注重「去城市化」。
我无法准确地定义这个影片的类型,但我希望通过这样形式的故事，无论是向中年、还是青年人都可以传递坚强与温暖。

· 私が探討したかったのは現代中国の1995年以降生まれた若い人達の隠された風潮――「捨て鉢態度」
遊んでいるように見えるが、心の中は落ち着かない。人の前は楽しく見えるが、人の目を離れると落ち込む。私はこの感覚を映画の人物の性格に注入した。その中、ヒロインは何度も「魚に餌をあげる」っと強調された。それは「満腹感」「充実」「世話」の象徴であるが、よく人に無視される物だ。それは実は、人々に自分の心をケアしようっとの呼びかけだった。映画の人物たちは各自に孤独だったが、互いに支え合った。  そして、家庭の元素も映画に加わった。それは人物関係の拡大で、同時に私個人の親と付き合う時の体験だった。

·私は「古い伝説」の雰囲気を「現代都市」に溶け込んで見たかった
微妙で漂う気持ちを全片に貫かせ、この映画の特有の空間を作り出した。音楽のスタイルも、神秘的だった。

·私は異なる元素の結びの「可能性」を探索したかった
映画はアニメーションと組み合わせて、異なるメディア、例えば携帯電話やパソコンなどを叙事に融合した。音も通常の叙事の同時に、実験性を持たせたかった。映画の中の三人の関係は三角関係ではなく、俳優のイメージも中性的だった。撮影中、私はわざと方言を選んだが、都市化を除去することを注意した。私はこの映画のジャンルを精確的に定義できないが、この物語通じて、中年へも、青年へも、強さと暖かさを伝えたかった
