Director Statement

In a world where its as possible to fail as it is to succeed, For the Culture is a film where the relationship of a black father and son take back the stigma of bad parenting. Marcus and Tae are both accounts of my father, myself, and the relationship I desired to have with him as a child, coupled with the growth and awareness I’ve developed over the years. They actively try to connect and form intimate moments with one another, while dealing with societal and economic pressures. The TV creates societal pressure of a false expectation placed upon the black man in the United States and the history that comes with it. To combat that, Tae uses the power of love and confidence his father gives to him.
