Her latest project, Exposure, a character driven family drama has been nominated for an award at Carmarthen Bay (BAFTA cymru qualifying) festival and won Best Actress and an Award for Excellence at the One Reeler short film competition and an Award for Excellence at the Global shorts competition. Her other short, an urban fairy tale called Match was nominated for Best Editing at Southampton International FF and Best Supporting Actress and Best Score at Portsmouth International FF.
Evy is currently also involved in an emerging theatre directors club and has directed plays at the Southwark Playhouse, the Old Red Lion, The Space, N16 and The Pleasance Theatre.
In her career making ground breaking TV documentaries Evy has also been nominated for an Indie award twice for her human-interest stories.
The small number of roles for pregnant women is partly responsible for this film! Jennifer Aries, an actress I know, approached me with a script. She has been involved in some high profile projects like The Tunnel, Ripper Street and BAFTA winning Call The Midwife but had written a role for herself to film while pregnant with her second baby. Also pregnant in the script and for real was Hannah who plays Stephanie the ambitious scientist. This put an interesting pressure on production! We had to shoot in September or not at all. I had never experienced this kind of hormonal bottleneck before!
If this project doesn't pass the Bechdel test I would be amazed. Three lead actresses - two pregnant, one heavily and some of the HODS not pregnant but female! A 1st AD and wholly female wardrobe and Make Up departments.
I really liked the idea behind this script inspired as it was by some of the ways that Hollywood stars stay so incredibly young looking. What would happen if we could get our hands on this kind of treatment, would we go for it no matter what the consequences are? The script asks some interesting questions about what is ethical and how far will someone go in pursuit of perfection?
It was a pleasure to come up with a strong aesthetic for how this should look which began in a colour coded wardrobe, to set dressing and how they complemented each other and finished off in the grade. For me only these kind of production values went hand in hand with a story about staying forever young.
