Christophe Hély, Filmmaker, Photographer, and Artist
Born in Paris in 1976, Christophe Hély has been fascinated by image and light from a young age, exploring photography and VHS cameras. During his photography studies in Paris, he spent countless hours in darkrooms, where the emergence of images in the chemical bath under inactinic light became a mystical spectacle for him. He later developed a passion for working with film slides, experimenting with the scales of reality through image projection, before exploring large-scale object mapping.
In 2013, he co-founded ProductionMedia.fr, a company dedicated to audiovisual production focused on press and communication, alongside Anthony Murzereau. Together, they also created 514 Production, a company specializing in the production of documentaries, series, and fiction.
Active on the Parisian LGBT scene, Christophe Hély has directed live broadcasts, music videos, recordings, promotional content for performances, documentaries, and works of video art. His artistic commitment aligns with supporting the LGBT cause, shining a spotlight on singers, musicians, drag queens, comedians, actors, street performers, and dancers.
Christophe also expressed himself through L’Afterwork de Kiki, events inspired by the Gracia Festival / Festa Major in Barcelona. These Afterworks told the story of Kiki, his mischievous monkey avatar, who existed in a world both imaginative and poetic, with a unique vision of reality. Christophe systematically integrated video in all its forms, often interactively, ensuring that participants were not mere spectators but fully immersed in his world. These evenings, true Madeleine de Proust and refreshingly unconventional, were orchestrated in collaboration with Anthony Murzereau, providing the LGBT community with an experience that people still talk about today.
In parallel, Christophe created prevention videos for French LGBTQI+ organizations such as Enipse and Crips, as well as other engaged groups.
His interest in music and sound has always been integral to his work. As a singer with several bands and experiences on the music scene, he lived through two long periods in his thirties near Camden in London, a true temple of music. When the opportunity arose to collaborate with François Sagat and Tommy Marcus, Christophe immediately envisioned a documentary film—a portrait, in his own distinct style, both intimate and almost militant—revealing François in unexpected ways, all while preserving the artistic freedom that defines Christophe.
