Elvia Susana Rubalcava is new to filmmaking and has already made a mark for herself. In the three short years she has jumped in producing, writing, and directing a new short film a year winning awards along the way. Including her first film Manitas’ (2021).
Rubalcava is currently working on pre-development on her web series Letters to my Dead Lovers, and is in post-production for her new short film Apa’s Girl. As well as supporting storytellers through her newly formed production company Poco a Poco.

Fluffy Homegirls is based on semi-true surreal events from my personal experience at Bratenders in NYC. From it, a short story was written in 2005, which developed into a staged play in 2018 that traveled to Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, and New Orleans. Now a new short film in 2023. Through the years the storyline and characters have evolved into a deeper tale of sisterhood, self-love and acceptance.
