Flesh City

Vyren (Christian Serritiello – Homeland, A Dangerous Method) meets Loquette (Eva Ferox) in a nihilistic techno club. He gets into a fight over a video game with Cyril (Shaun Lawton – Aeon Flux, Cloud Atlas) and explores the dark corners of the club with her. Little do they know that in a hidden laboratory a rapidly growing organism is infecting the city and invading the brains of its inhabitants. Soon mayhem and mutation rule while the city becomes flesh.

„FLESH CITY is a Trojan horse of a film. It starts as a genre movie but slowly derails into manipulating the audience's mind. You come to realize that you yourself are the real victim of the film's mysterious mad scientist character. After the visually intense finale one can only wonder as to what extent your brain has been altered and for what purpose. It's hard to shake off the feeling of having been brainwashed.”

Director Biography - Thorsten Fleisch

Thorsten Fleisch was born 1972 in Koblenz (Germany). He made his first film experiments with his dad’s Super 8 camera when still in school. Later he studied experimental film with Prof. Peter Kubelka at the Städelschule in Frankfurt. Thorsten Fleisch works with digital and analogue film. With materials such as the body, crystals, fire and electricity, he worked directly on 16 mm film strips. Crystals are grown on the film and 30,000 volts burn through photo paper. The results are poetic and abstract visual systems with references to catharsis, cosmos and the universe. In 2003 Fleisch received an Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica in Linz (Austria) for his computer animated film Gestalt. High voltage is the centre of his work Energie! for which he has won international acclaim. He created commissioned work for Gaspar Noé and Basement Jaxx among others. His films received several awards and were shown at festivals worldwide like: New York Film Festival, Ars Electronica, Transmediale, Ottawa International Animation Festival, Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, San Francisco Film Festival, Videoex. He lives and works in Berlin and is now releasing his first feature film called 'Flesh City'.

Director Statement

'Flesh City' was shot over a four year period in Berlin, Germany. It is Thorsten Fleisch's first feature narrative film. Fleisch has been producing short experimental films that have won him much acclaim and awards at the film festival circuit since the late 90s. For 'Flesh City' he was able to put his experiences in atomistic image investigation to full effect. He created a wild, distorted fever dream of a brutalist city exploding into flesh.

'Flesh City' is a hostile and dark place inhabited by a wide array of strange characters who all follow their own bizarre projects to keep the numbing terror of existance at bay.

There are Narizza and Laudia who have their own satanist video channel called 'Vote Zatan', Quantum 1337 who broadcasts nihilistic music videos on his show 'Magical Nihilism' and last but not least Womb Envy who goes to great lengths to shock and awe her audience.
