Brandon recently graduated from NYU Tisch this past May in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. He’s an aspiring feature director focused on externalizing complex internal struggles. His film “Fit” is a reflection of his own personal struggle with obesity. Having been obese most of his life, Brandon is keenly aware of what it means to be in his character’s shoes. He hopes that his film will cast a light on the often overlooked issue of male body image.
Growing up, I struggled with obesity. Most often the problem manifested in internal insecurities rather than real world issues. Despite this, when I did run into limitations because of my weight I was crushed. From being escorted off a roller coaster, to discovering that my dress pants just wouldn't fit anymore, these small moments hurt more than I could have imagined. It was in these moments that I, and many others could have imagined taking a knife to their own body. These issues are prevalent among countless children yet often boys and young men are left out of this conversation. “Fit” seeks to be a deep dive into the hell-scape that comes with body image issues.
