Fishbowl

When the world locks down during the COVID-19 pandemic, a former dancer becomes further trapped in a toxic
relationship with her emotionally abusive
husband. Increasingly isolated and with only a goldfish as a
friend, she is forced to choose between placating her husband and freeing herself.

Director Statement

My vision was to create a poetic drama film that offers an informed, yet emphatic glimpse into the life of a female survivor of domestic emotional abuse. The protagonist, Holdia, is a former professional dancer, living within the confines of her marital home in the grip of her husband Thomas. She is emotionally broken, her confidence and self-worth are eradicated leaving Holdia feeling trapped. The film, thus, examines the themes of the forms that non-physical violence takes, especially when exaggerated by a global pandemic such as Covid-19, and the strength of the human spirit even in the most difficult of situations.
