Daniel Maslen is a filmmaker and genre-enthusiast based in Glasgow, Scotland. Obsessed with the history, folklore and culture of Scotland and Europe, Daniel uses the historical and fantasy medium to create compelling, contemporary cinema.
'Fire & Lace' is the debut production of Clanranald Productions, a Scottish company dedicated to using the medium of genre filmmaking to reimagine what we know of the Celtic identity.
The film is a unique blend of narrative and experimental storytelling, centred on Mary, a Tudor noblewoman fleeing an unwanted marriage. As the hunt for Mary escalates, she is mysteriously transported back in time to the Medieval era, where she reunites with her handmaidens. Together, they embark on a mesmerizing dance, eventually transcending to a fiery, Pagan witching frenzy.
'Fire & Lace' draws inspiration from Scottish history and the European influences on Scottish culture, evoking a profound sense of nostalgia for a time that never existed. Mary's fate remains uncertain, but in the presence of the flames, she learns to liberate herself from the shackles of her past.
