Tasos Sagris was born in Athens in 1972. He is a director and poet. Founding member of the Institute for Experimental Arts and member of the cultural group Void Network. He began working as a journalist in 1988, writing mainly in music magazines and fanzines of the time. He has collaborated with newspapers and magazines writing articles and interviewing American and European intellectuals (John Holloway, David Graeber, Saul Newman, Michael Hardt, Naomi Klain) with whom continues to maintain creative contact. He was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Modern Expression (2013).
Tasos Sagris is one of the notable theater directors of the modern repertoire in Greece, combining modern theatrical texts with the audiovisual arts and expressionism. For all his theatrical performances, tributes have been made to the printed and electronic press. Dr. Leandros Polenakis has maintained the permanent column of theatrical criticism of the newspaper "Avgi" since 1978, and has written rave reviews for the directorial work of Tasos Sagris. Theater critic Nona Moleski has recorded the work of Tasos Sagris, deifying the performance Psychosis - 4.48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane and Night! Yard Gal by Rebecca Pritchard. He has given interviews to several recognized publications (New York Times USA).
The play Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, directed by Tasos Sagris and produced by the Institute of Experimental Arts, premiered on February 1, 2020. The play is under the auspices of the Czech Cultural Center and the Franz Kafka Society - Prague.
He has collaborated with the American theater company Living Theater in the production and execution of a theatrical workshop in Athens (2019). The workshop entitled "A Day in The Life of The City - A day in the life of the city", developed by Hanon Reznikov and Judith Malina in 1990, has been featured in the US, Europe and South America.
Curator of cultural festivals, among others, the Financial Consequences: Multimedia Poetry Night (LSE London 2018), the annual International Video Festival (started in 2012), the annual Indie Free Festival (started in 1990), B-Fest (2011) 2018), Antifascist Festival of Performing Arts (2014-2016), Metropolis (2017), Poetry and Uprising (2014 to 2016).
From 1990 to the present, he has participated in many conferences and meetings as a speaker. He was also a co-organizer and curator of a very large number of lectures, speeches and lectures to promote philosophy and critical thinking in Greece and other countries, with guests including: Howard Zinn, Noam Chomski, Naomi Klain, John Holloway, David Graeber , Michael Hardt, George Katsiafikas etc. His important lectures in Greece include: Sacred Architecture and Utopia (School of Architecture 1998), The Art of emptiness (1st Athens Biennale-2007), Poetry and Rebellion - Political Art in the 21st Century (National Museum of Contemporary Art and London School of Economics 2018), Photography and Poetry (Benaki Museum 2005), (Portikus Museum Germany 2018).
From 1990 until today he has organized more than 70 poetry evenings in Greece and abroad where poets improvise live with musicians and visual artists. He participated in many poetry festivals as a poet between other the 1st Biennale Destroy Athens (2007), the 1st Balkan Film Festival (2017), Total Freedom Tour (India 2013) and performances in the three-month tour in 40 different cities (USA 2011). Most important stations during his tour in the USA are the numerous speeches at Berkley University, Judson Memorial Church (New York), the speeches at Chicago, New Orleans, Seattle, etc.
He has organized important poetry evenings in collaboration with local and international poets and artists in India (Total Freedom World tour and many other events and collaborations - Delhi, Varanasi, Bombay, Calcutta - 8 tours from 1995 to present), Nepal (Ladies). Nights- Kathmandu 2001 -2004), Mexico (Festival Global -Libertad Total- Mexico City, Puebla, San Christobal 2008), USA (London 2011), London (Financial Consequences: International Multimedia Poetry Night - London School of Economics and Political Sciences 2018), in Germany (Frankfurt-Portikus Museum, 2018). He has also organized poetry evenings in the public space, transforming the city into an open field of culture (Kolonaki Square within the 1st Biennale 2007, Monastiraki Square as part of the Metropolis Festival, 2017, Poetry from the 21st Century to the Field of Areos 2019 and many other activities) .
He is the curator of the Empty Publications, which focuses on the publication of new poets. He has edited 9 poetry collections in the series The Sound of Void and has anthologized the digital tribute entitled "Poetry from the 21st century - 60 Contemporary Poets from Greece" which will be released this year in bookstores.
As artistic director of the influential International Video Poetry Festival, an annual festival with great acclaim and international recognition, he has invited many artists to present their work in Greece and has promoted many works by Greek artists at similar festivals abroad. , Candence, Versopolis etc.)
From 1990 to 1998 he was a singer and poet in the music band Horror Vacui while in 2015 he created the poetic-musical group Tasos Sagris & Whodoes, a vehicle for the creation of spoken word electronica and Video. Through his poetry, Tasos Sagris photographs the current era on a political, social and existential level, on a domestic and global scale, quoting questions about the present and the future of this world.
