Fever Dream

Fever Dream is an exploration of a recurring nightmare that I have when I am very ill. In the dream, I feel light-headed, my eyes roll back and my gut feels loose and heavy. I start to feel ‘things’ or ‘viruses’ push violently through my body. They feel like bugs against your skin except they move through every muscle; rushing through my body and destroying it. I try to stop them with my arms, protecting my chest but they keep coming in waves and waves and waves. It feels like a never-ending fall; I know it's a loop but I have no control. I just have to stand there and take it as the virus relentlessly violates my sick body.

I have had this dream ever since I was a little kid and it has never changed. I always wake up in a cold sweat with my head spinning, the sickness feeling worse than before.

Fever Dream attempts to capture this dream and it’s feeling by exploring the body in its vulnerable and vile form. How our mind mutates the image of our body and how disconnected and sick we feel upon waking.

Fever Dream is not meant to be beautiful. It doesn’t glorify the body with pretty images. It aims to be claustrophobic and gross. An extension of the body horror paintings of Francis Bacon and the short films of David Lynch which mutate human features into surrealist objects. An uncomfortable and squeamish watch, that traps the viewer in a loop of raw images showing a sickened and exposed form.
