Fair Seas - The Atlantic Northwest

Life along the northwest Irish coastline is constantly moved and shaped by the wild green waves rolling in from the Atlantic Ocean.

Below the waves, the life and colour of the underwater world awaits. By exploring these hidden gems of Ireland, the wildlife and seascapes hidden beneath the surface, and how these waters are now at risk, this film explores the stunning Irish coastline through the eyes of those who know it best.

Voices from local coastal communities explore their close connection to the ocean, sharing their stories, hopes and fears, and how marine protections offer new hope for a brighter future for our natural world.

Director Statement

As a marine scientist turned documentary filmmaker, I aim to combine science and film, exploring and sharing new insights into the natural world. This film offers new access into Ireland’s journey towards 30% protection of its national waters, exploring differing attitudes to marine protected areas through the voices of coastal communities, the many wonders of the underwater world hidden beneath the waves and the passionate, dedicated people calling for a healthy ocean. I would love for our film to be selected, to share this new and much-needed optimism with a wide audience. Through this short film, Fair Seas: The Atlantic North West, we offer new hope for a brighter future.
