Experiencing Interruptions?

Facing the void

In the collective imagination, mountaineering is seen as an elitist and dangerous activity. When the mainstream press talks about mountaineering, it is generally to relate a drama or an exploit. The mountaineers are then placed in two categories. On the one hand, reckless supermen, engaged in a death struggle with the mountains. On the other, irresponsible unconscious people, that it is too often necessary to get out of a bad patch by mobilizing important means of rescue.

But does this negative image of mountaineering match reality ? What if mountaineering had another face, that of a little-known practice, more widespread than one think ? What if mountaineering was not only a matter of supermen, but had also a feminine face ?

Director Biography - Marc Brulard

From a very young age, Marc was passionate about images. Drawing, photography and videography are his preferred means of expression. As a regular practitioner of outdoor sports, he settled in the Alpes-Maritimes (France), a magnificent playground between sea and mountains.

Willing to bring back a memory of his adventures in the outdoors, he always takes a camera with him. From year to year, he perfected his practice of video and photography. His desire to share the moments lived up there encouraged him to experiment in a particular format of the storytelling : the documentary film making.

Today, at 30, Marc works as an engineer in the space industry. In the meantime, driven by demand from potential customers, he launched an independent videographer activity in 2018.

Director Statement

With my film I wanted to shed a different light on the prejudices that we often have about mountaineering. Through the eyes of novices I am showing another face of alpinism than the one given by the media and the elites - on of an activity open to everyone and increasingly feminine.
