FOREVER LOST

Toward disappearance. Neither something nor nothing, somehow someway in between. Waves adrift among the waves always flooding out and in. Shadows haunting other shadows as they keep on waning out, forever lost in the empty at the threshold of blackout. A cinematic journey across the photographic universe of Sophie Patry.

Director Biography - Amine Boucekkine, Jimena Aguilar

Paris-based poet, musician, producer and artistic director. Beside the organization of many multidisciplinary artistic events and the conception of contemporary dance-theatre shows and butoh performances in collaboration with recognized figures such as Gyohei Zaitsu, Juju Alishina, Sakurako and Juliette Morel, Amine Boucekkine produces and co-creates experimental musical short films: Dead Dreams Falling, The Core, Let me show you the beauty of falling from Grace, A Sailor's dream, Woke Up in an ashtray etc. Films that were screened in more than 30 cities in all 5 continents from Melbourne to Toronto, including New York, Los Angeles, Paris, London, Barcelona, Madrid, Sao Paolo, Torino to name a few. Grace and disgrace entwined, the obsessive quest for a meaning, the confrontation with nothingness and the radical questioning of identity and reality are among the many themes that run through his multidisciplinary approach.

Director Statement

Born from a common desire to create a synergy between Sophie Patry's photographic work and my multidisciplinary approach, Forever Lost is an audiovisual poem that has been conceived as a contemplative journey across a cohesive world which every photography would represent a scene from. But instead of putting together a simple slideshow, we have formally structured the whole experiment around a reflexion on the tension between stillness and motion as it is captured by photography and unleashed by cinema. We decided that each and every selected picture would be digitally recreated, animated, deconstructed and extended, thanks to the motion design work operated by Jimena Aguilar, so that we could articulate a sort of tracking shot that would allow the spectators to embark with us on a travel across a universe that would be a metaphor for the frailty of our condition. A world of evanescence and shadowiness that would seem to be endlessly drifting toward disappearance. Extinction is the horizon. Yet here we are now, not knowing why and how, trying to find our way in the middle of nowhere.
