FORECLOSURE - ArtHouse Film

“Moving the Needle in Metamodern Cinema” ( IndieWrapMag )

FORECLOSURE is an art-house science fiction drama re-imagined from the classic movie footage of ‘The Last Man On Earth’ by the Italian director Ubaldo Ragona. This new transformative short-film plays on the human fear of alien colonization, the desire to live forever and a global Armageddon to create quite a good end-of-the-world story.

The film focuses on Malthus, who is a member of an alien race that lands on earth with the intent to colonize the planet after it got stranded in space. The aliens deliberately make men impotent turning them into violent and suicidal creatures. Only members of the alien race can sire children with human women. However, conflict emerges when one of Malthus’s offspring, Iris, is overcome with feelings of revenge and becomes determined to kill her father and possibly end the tyrannical rule wrought upon the earth by Malthus’ kind. The film explores the conflict and tangles between these two opposing main characters, before culminating in a paradoxical victory for humanity when Malthus is exterminated.

Film analysis: "Through these experimental methodologies, Maki’s 'Foreclosure' not only stretches the vocabulary of the art film but also provokes viewers to rethink boundaries—of media, meaning, and their own expectations—fueling new possibilities for cinematic and artistic exploration."
