Director Biography - Omid Yousefi

I was born on one of the coldest winter days of year 1972 in the beautiful city of Rasht in northern part of Iran revolution, destructive and horrifying war affected the childhood and youth of me and my peers There was no pleasure or hope except having a loving and united family. My first encounter with cinema was at the age of six. The film "Reza Motori" directed by Masoud Kimiaee was the first film that introduced me to the magic of cinema and later on, Kimiaee became my cinematic legend. Studying electrical science in high school, which was far from my artistic interests, led me away from my favorite field. The Iranian Professional Photography Academy and learning photography became my serious connection to the world of art. My interest in social documentary photography and learning from masters of this field marked the beginning of my entry into the world of creation. Joining "Azadfilm Cinema School" was a turning point in my life, and it was strange that being a student of Masoud Kimiaee, alongside other prominent teachers of this medium, provided me with the greatest pleasure in cinema. And this was the start of my adventure....
I am still learning, and every day, I immerse myself more in the vast ocean of art.

Director Statement

"I and my peers belong to a generation that has experienced and witnessed bloody and tragic events such as revolution, war, missile attacks, forced migrations, and various sanctions. Regardless of their common aspects, we have seen how and with what strengths each of these events has affected different layers of our society.

The short film "evacuee" is a love story on surface. The story of two teenagers who live next to each other and have created a beautiful world of love and dreams. But what destroys their beautiful world is an endless war. A war whose first mission is not only destruction, murder, occupation, and fulfilling the desires of its creators, but its biggest goal is the destruction of love and beauty.

Perhaps in "evacuee" , these two Afghan families represent the story of pain and suffering, but it is obvious that what war wants and unbelievably achieves, does not exempt any border, race, culture, or ethnicity.

Wherever the fire of war is ignited, beauty is the first victim.
