Exotismos

The artist Exotismos arises from Yoná's ambition to confront stereotypes associated with beauty and aesthetics, which explore the insecurities of self-esteem. With an artistic approach, she creates cuts and colors that transcend visual changes. In a vibrant and intimate setting, the short film “Exotismos” portrays dialogues and transformations that reveal not only the expression of hair, but also the individuality of non-conformist bodies, in the cultural effervescence of the capital of Goiás.

Director Biography - Alessandra Gama

I'm a first-time screenwriter and director.
Studies cinema and audiovisual at State University of Goiás (UEG), PhD in Cultural Performances from the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), currently carrying out post-doctoral research on black cinema and semiotics at ECA/USP.

I was born in Campinas/SP, I was co-founder of Ponto de Cultura Ibaô (2009), where I worked as coordinator of the independent cinema training “nós na Tela” (2015), directed by filmmaker and professor Gilberto Sobrinho (Multimeios/Unicamp) and curator of Cine Cultura Ibaô (2009–2014).
I am a member of APAN (Association of Black Audiovisual Professionals) and director of Zariah Filmes, an independent film production company based in Goiânia, in the state of Goiás.

Currently, in pre-production of the short documentary film “(des) Aparecido”, selected by the Edital Curta Afirmativo 2023 — New Directors (SAV/MINC), in development of the feature film of the same name, winner of the Cora Award in the Feature Film category Documentary and award-winning by the FomentaCine Project Clinic, Cinema and Audiovisual Market-Seminar held by Cine Brasília and Box 24-DF, and the fiction script “Destino” is being developed.

Exotismos (2024), my first short film, premiered at the 10th DIRIGO Student Film Festival (Bristol, UK) and was selected by the Curta Cinema — Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival — 33rd edition; 45th Durban International Film Festival (Durban, South Africa); 21th Fear No Film (Salt Lake City, Utah-USA); 2º Cine RO - Rondônia Film Festival Rondônia, Brasil); Short Way International Short Film Festival; Short Documentary Festival (Calamata, Greece), 4th KIIFFA (Delhi, IN), awarded in the Best Short Film in Goiás, Best Short Film Script and Best Direction at the IX DIGO - International Festival of Sexual and Gender Diversity of Goiás; First winner of the Future Visions University Film Festival at the 24th FICA - International Environmental Film and Video Festival-BRA; Best Documentary Short and Best Debut Director categories at the 2 11 17 International Film Festival; Best International Short Film and Best Student Film at the Sittannavasal International Film Festival (IN).
