Director Statement

As a composer I always looked at filmmakers with reverence. I admired how the craft requires your full immersion, often for longer periods of time than I had found recording music from the comfort of my home studio. I wanted to understand what it meant to live inside a project for several months. I felt like the experience would make me a better composer and more well rounded artist.

With a documentary film, we wanted to create something that embodied the emotion and struggle that we all feel as artists while sharing the beauty and inspirational value of our National Parks. It only made sense that we would take the recording studio to the outdoors for months and document the whole thing.

Before we began this project I remember seeing a five part series by Jared Leto called, Great Wide Open. This series moved me, it challenged me. I remember the way each episode made me feel about the outdoors and our relationship with it. It made me think about ways to combine music, film and a love for the outdoors into one project.

I feel passionate about the arts and their value to humanity. My hope is to use multiple forms of media to carry inspiration to other artists and share value for our precious outdoor spaces.
