Director Biography - Steve Parys

Steve Parys started his career 34 years ago as a production assistant on THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Since then, he has worked on over 40 feature films & TV shows in the U.S. and Europe, as well as hundreds of commercials, videos, shorts and industrials.

Steve has been directing projects for many years, including the first episode of the web series MARES & KAPS, the Tapestry Award winning feature film THE CHIEF, TV pilot MULLIGAN (named best TV pilot at the Rhode Island Film Festival), & the multiple award winning short films BREAKAGE, LIGHTHEADED, and REIGN OF THE DEAD. He also co-directed MTV’s first short form mini-series, CHLOE, which grew to feature length with their blessing. Other directing projects include feature film 2nd units, commercials, music videos, PSAs, and countless narrative industrials. Steve is also the recipient of a Cine Golden Eagle Award for Best Director.

Steve’s 1st Assistant Director credits include dozens of feature films (HOLIDAY RUSH, CONCUSSION, FOXCATCHER, THE BREAD MY SWEET, DANDELION, and many others) & TV shows (including AMERICAN RUST seasons 1 & 2, FEAR THE WALKING DEAD, GONE, OUTSIDERS, DOWNWARD DOG, & SUPAH NINJAS!) all across the U.S. and abroad, as well as hundreds of commercials, videos, shorts, & industrials.

Steve lives on the South Side of Pittsburgh with his lovely wife of twenty-eight years, Annie, and their maniac cat, Strummer.

His favorite band is still The Clash.

Director Statement

Once I decided that I was going to direct another short film, I started looking for scripts that were edgy, gritty & showy but the more I slogged through violent, emotionally ugly scripts, the more I realized I was more getting concerned with style over substance & that what I really wanted to do was direct something kind and empathetic, qualities severely lacking these days. My friend & producer gave me a batch of contest winning scripts to look at and one jumped out at me - a project that was compassionate, sweet, gentle, sad, & funny. I knew Eulogies had to be my next project. A little something to make you sad, happy, wince, and chuckle.
