Equality!
Rory Peters, a mixed-race newcomer to the stand-up scene, has just been invited to kickstart their stand-up career by their seasoned comic friend, Jacob. Joined by their mutual friend Stella in the green room, the three run through Jacob’s routine first before Rory’s, for any last-minute feedback right before their show starts.
However, they start to clash as Rory calls out Jacob’s overly “activist” and politically correct humour, that has just looped back around to overt bigotry and misunderstanding of oppression.
As Rory tries to bridge the gap between Jacob's seemingly well-met intentions and comedy, tensions rise between them and their two self-proclaimed politically correct friends, as the pair repeatedly ignore Rory’s input, despite the fact that they are ostensibly the target audience for Jacob’s entire routine.

The concept for “Equality!” came from the struggles of my friends and I, as people who are visible minorities. I personally wasn’t raised around many people who really looked like me, so I
turned to comedy at a young age as a crutch of sorts to deal with that. Being able to poke fun at my struggles in a way that wasn’t rooted in self-deprecation, or “woe is me” humour, has helped my friends and I feel better in our identities.
However, for lack of a better term, it seems nowadays people tend to get offended on behalf of those who are oppressed in the name of activism instead of actually listening to them, and this often loops back around to silencing those voices anyways.
I like making jokes to help myself cope, and if others in a similar position find them funny too, then that’s great! And if it pisses some folks off, then I’ve successfully proven my point on how backwards and hypocritical the state of activism is today.
